- Eat Nutritious Snacks and Meals – What we eat and drink is directly related to how we feel later in the day. Focus on whole grains, lean meats, fruits and vegetables. When you are tired and stressed, you automatically want to reach for sweet and salty foods. Do your best to fight this temptation and continue to eat healthy. Eat smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day to keep your blood sugar levels constant and to avoid cravings for unhealthy foods.
- Exercise – Even if it’s just a five minute walk to the mailbox, getting out in the fresh air and getting your blood circulating will be beneficial. Ten to twenty minutes of exercise a day will help clear your mind and keep you physically strong. You may even want to consider going on a stroll with the loved one under your care. - Take Breaks – Don’t feel bad if you need a break. Make arrangements for another responsible adult to take over for a few hours and go do something by yourself, with your spouse or with friends.
